What should you do if you’re at risk for kidney disease?
Get tested! Hi, I’m Dr. Griffin Rodgers, bringing you Healthy Moments from the NIH. I’m the Director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.
Many people don’t know that they have kidney disease until their kidneys are just about ready to fail, because they don’t have any symptoms.
If you’re at risk, especially if you have high blood pressure or diabetes, getting your blood and urine tested for signs of kidney disease is essential. If you have the disease, your doctor can give you medicine to prevent or delay your kidneys from failing.
To raise awareness, the National Kidney Disease Education Program has started Kidney Sundays, which includes a tool kit for faith-based groups.
