When it comes to supporting kids with diabetes, school staff don’t have to do it alone.

Hi, I’m Dr. Griffin Rodgers, bringing you Healthy Moments. I’m the Director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases at NIH.

Last week I told you why school staff should put a plan in place to support students with diabetes. An important part of that plan is for school staff to work together with the student’s diabetes health care team.

The student’s diabetes health care team can include a doctor, nurse, registered dietitian, and others. This team will prepare a Diabetes Medical Management Plan for the student. The school health team should in turn use this diabetes plan to create a plan to be used during school.

We can help, with a free publication called Helping the Student with Diabetes Succeed, A Guide for School Personnel.

To download it, visit yourdiabetesinfo.org. This is Dr. Griffin Rodgers. Join me next week for more Healthy Moments.
