Code Changes for Major Sector Multifactor Productivity Series

This special notice provides information on changes to the Series ID format for the MP series.

Data downloads on the BLS website are based on a unique series identifier called the "Series ID". A Series ID is generated according to predictable rules and generally do not change over time. A Series ID allows customers to download a particular measure or group of measures quickly and easily using the Series Report tool.

Although revisions to the Series ID format are infrequent, sometimes changes are implemented to facilitate long-term improvements to customer or database usability. For improved usability, the Series ID format for the multifactor productivity program was revised on January 26, 2012. Note that there is an additional digit in the revised Series ID format. This is due to a revision in the previous measure code, which has been replaced by two codes (a measure code and a duration code). Combined, these codes specify the way the measure is displayed over time.

Furthermore, regularly published measures of factor cost shares were added to the database. These six measures are included in the tables below.
