The Current Population Survey (CPS) is a monthly survey of households conducted by the Bureau of Census for the Bureau of Labor Statistics. It provides a comprehensive body of data on the labor force, employment, unemployment, persons not in the labor force, hours of work, earnings, and other demographic and labor force characteristics.

The unemployment rate decreased to 7.8 percent in September, and total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 114,000. Employment increased in health care and in transportation and warehousing but changed little in most other major industries. More...

In 2011, 17.8 percent of persons with a disability were employed. In contrast, the employment-population ratio for persons without a disability was 63.6 percent. The unemployment rate for persons with a disability was 15.0 percent.

Employment Characteristics of Veterans—2011

March 20, 2012
The unemployment rate for veterans of Gulf War era II (September 2001 forward) was 12.1 percent in 2011. Twenty-six percent of Gulf War-era II veterans reported having a service-connected disability in August 2011, compared with about 14 percent of all veterans.
