Two groups in Wilmington get $10 million in HUD grants to help provide housing for the elderly.

Ingleside Homes will get more than $6.2 million to renovate the Dr. H. Fletcher Brown home. The home will be turned into 29 one-bedroom rental units for low income seniors The home currently has just six units.

The Ministry of Caring will get more than $4.6 million to build a three story building which will include 21 one-bedroom units. "This is a great day for the elderly in Delaware that so desperately need affordable and safe housing," said Senator Tom Carper (D-Delaware). "This grant will provide them with housing that is convenient to public transportation and that uses energy efficient principles – a win-win for Delaware."

The grants are part of a nationwide housing program that will start construction or rehabilitation on nearly 200 housing developments in 41 states and Puerto Rico.
