The FTC Honors Paralegal Program

If you are interested in a career in law, economics, business, or public service, the Federal Trade Commission’s Honors Paralegal Program can offer you the opportunity to realize your goals.  Based on the overall needs of the agency, the FTC’s Honors Paralegal Program each year seeks a number of motivated persons for 14-month term appointments as Honors Paralegals in the Bureau of Competition (BC), the Bureau of Consumer Protection (BCP), and the Office of the General Counsel (OGC).  These terms can be extended in some cases up to four years.  When you apply to the paralegal program, your application will be considered for openings in BC, BCP, and OGC.

The FTC deals with issues that touch the economic life of every American. It is the only federal agency with both consumer protection and competition jurisdiction in broad sectors of the economy. The FTC pursues vigorous and effective law enforcement; advances consumers’ interests by sharing its expertise with federal and state legislatures and U.S. and international government agencies; develops policy and research tools through hearings, workshops, and conferences; and creates practical and plain-language educational programs for consumers and businesses in a global marketplace with constantly changing technologies.

The FTC is an independent agency that reports to Congress on its actions.  The Commission is headed by five Commissioners, nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate, each serving a seven-year term.  The President chooses one Commissioner to act as Chairman.  No more than three Commissioners can be of the same political party.  See the Commissioners page for a list of the current commissioners and their biographies.

The FTC has been named one of the best places to work in the federal government by the Partnership for Public Service. View our 2010 rankings.
