CPSC's Statutes (Acts), Regulations, and General Commission Information

Purpose of the CPSC

The CPSC is an independent Federal regulatory agency that helps keep American families safe by reducing the risk of injury or death from consumer products.

CPSC has General Regulations (Subpart A of Chapter II under the CPSA) that cover a number of Consumer Product Safety Commission administrative and organizational regulations. Many of these regulations set forth procedures regarding how the staff will conduct meetings with outside parties, disclose information under the Freedom of Information Act, protect human subjects, participate in voluntary standards activities, work with small businesses, and other similar issues. This section also provides information for businesses regarding procedures for export of noncomplying, misbranded, or banned products; for petitioning for rulemaking; for informal oral presentations before the CPSC; and applications for state and local exemption from preemption.
