Law Enforcement Rifle Training Program (LERTP)

The Law Enforcement Rifle Training Program (LERTP) is a one week program structured to train the student in minor caliber, optically unaided rifle/carbine skills and techniques.  The program is designed to target the individual who may be required to employ their rifle/carbine in various law enforcement situations.

Type: Advanced

Length: 5 class days

Curriculum

  • Short range marksmanship [< 50 yards]
  • Intermediate marksmanship [50 yards – 300 yards]
  • Perimeter/containment
  • Urban/rural deployment

 

LERTP introduces the student to:

  • Rifle/carbine maintenance.
  • Rifle/carbine/Handgun handling skills.
  • Rifle/carbine shooting positions.
  • Rifle/carbine shooting on the move.
  • Rifle/carbine shooting on/off cover.
  • Rifle/carbine multiple target shooting.
  • Rifle/carbine malfunctions.
  • Rifle/carbine/handgun transitions.
  • Rifle/carbine reduced light shooting.
  • Rifle/carbine shooting with EOTech/Aimpoint.
  • Tactical concepts and considerations for effective and safe deployment of the weapon.

    Instructors

    Instructors assigned to coordinate and work with these programs have a significant background in law enforcement/military and special weapons training.  The instructional staff includes personnel from federal, military, state and municipal law enforcement agencies.  All instructors assigned to teach in these programs attend special instructor training programs in the disciplines assigned.

    Prerequisites for Attendance

    For acceptance into the program, the student must meet the following criteria: the applicant must pass a FLETC health screening; be in good physical condition; have completed a basic law enforcement academy; and be presently employed by a law enforcement agency as a sworn LEO, or as an agency instructor.

    Additional Information

    Upon request, this program is also available as an export to an agency’s location.
