FLETC Receives National Interagency Partnership Award

The Federal Laboratory Consortium (FLC) has  presented the 2011 Interagency Partnership Award to the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) and the Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division (NAWCTSD) Orlando, Fla., for their collaborative efforts in the development of a technologically advanced law enforcement training system that can enhance the training, performance and safety of law enforcement officers across the nation.

The patent-pending Advanced Use of Force Training System (AUFTS) offers law enforcement an innovative use-of-force training solution unlike anything on the market. The prototype simulator features computer-generated imagery (CGI), trackable simulated weapons, speech recognition and scenario-generated capabilities. NAWCTSD developed the system by leveraging DOD technology and FLETC provided law enforcement expertise during the development and continues to test the system at multiple sites.

The national award acknowledges the symbiotic relationship between the FLETC and NAWCTSD. Each year FLC recognizes the efforts of federal science and technology employees from at least two different agencies who have collaboratively accomplished outstanding work in the process of transferring a technology. FLETC Assistant Director Michael Hanneld accepted the award on behalf of Director Connie Patrick at the FLC Annual Awards Banquet in Nashville, Tenn., May 5, 2011.

“We are pleased that the Federal Laboratory Consortium has recognized FLETC’s leadership and innovation in adapting new technology to support our mission, and we are especially gratified that this award highlights FLETC’s longstanding partnership with our associates and counterparts at the Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division,” stated Hanneld.

The FLC promotes and coordinates technology transfer efforts by creating an environment that facilitates the rapid movement of government-developed technologies into the U.S. economy. More than 250 federal laboratories and centers and their parent departments and agencies are FLC members.

“This award is a tribute to our partnership with the Navy and our joint achievements that continue to enhance both law enforcement and military training programs,” said  Director Patrick.
