NHC on Twitter
NOAA's National Hurricane Center has joined the conversation on Twitter.
The NHC presence on Twitter is a prototype to help decision-makers and the
public receive notifications of the very latest on hazardous tropical weather
systems. The addition of NHC's voice via Twitter services to the social stream
is meant to enhance the ability of NHC and its partners to achieve their missions
by building situational awareness, and allow for a broader reach of information
to the public that it serves.
NHC has three twitter accounts:
U.S. National Hurricane Center (Atlantic) -
@NHC_Atlantic
U.S. National Hurricane Center (Eastern Pacific) -
@NHC_Pacific
These two accounts are used to update followers whenever NHC has issued one of
the following products for that basin:
- A public advisory regarding a tropical cyclone (TCP)
- A tropical cyclone update (TCU)
- A position estimate (TCE)
- A tropical weather outlook (TWO)
Each tweet contains a link to access the corresponding product on the NHC website.
NHC also can tweet a special message at any time.

U.S. National Hurricane Center (Storm Surge) -
@NHC_Surge
This account enhances storm surge forecasts by providing real-time reports
and observations during an event (resources permitting). The feed will enhance
preparedness and outreach efforts throughout the year, and provide news and
announcements on updates to the SLOSH modeling system and storm surge decision
support tools.
