Heart Disease Risk Factor Infographics

Risk factors are conditions or habits that make a person more likely to develop a disease. An astonishing 80 percent of women ages 40 to 60 have one or more risk factor for heart disease. These infographics explain key modifiable risk factors—smoking, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, being overweight or obese, physical inactivity, and diabetes or prediabetes—and steps women can take to protect their heart health.

On February 8, 2012, 17 celebrated women took to the runway in red dresses created by some of America's top designers at New York's legendary Hammerstein Ballroom in honor of The Heart Truth's 10th anniversary. This year's Red Dress Collection Fashion Show included Christie Brinkley, Chaka Khan, Linda Evans, Rebecca Romijn, and Giselle Blondet to name a few. The Red Dress Collection 2012 was presented by Diet Coke and partners Bobbi Brown Cosmetics and Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spas.

On February 9, 2011, The Heart Truth unveiled its annual Red Dress Collection 2011 Fashion Show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. The Fashion Show featured 22 of the hottest celebrities—including Suzanne Somers, Giuliana Rancic, Linda Gray, Ann Curry, and Tararji P. Henson—and paired them with America's top designers. The Red Dress Collection 2011 was presented by Diet Coke. National sponsors include Swarovski, AOL, and make-up partner Bobbi Brown Cosmetics.

Starting September 30, 2010, the George H. W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum in College Station, Texas, is showcasing the fourth installment of the First Ladies Red Dress Collection. This unique display features red gowns and suits worn by America's First Ladies, as well as designer red dresses to raise awareness of the #1 killer of women—heart disease. The year-long featured exhibit will include the addition of red dresses from Pat Nixon, Eleanor Roosevelt, Lou Hoover, Bess Truman, and Jackie Kennedy, as well as a display of 12 designer red dresses from the Red Dress Collection Fashion Shows.

The Heart Truth returned to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week on February 11, 2010, for the annual Red Dress Collection Fashion Show. The Fashion Show paired 17 of America's top designers with "women of heart" including Heidi Klum, Kristin Chenoweth, Felicity Huffman, Robin Roberts and Valerie Harper. The Red Dress Collection 2010 was presented by Diet Coke. National sponsors include Swarovski, Tylenol and St. Joseph Aspirin; and make-up partner Bobbi Brown Cosmetics.

CANTON, OH, November 2008-May 2009, In its third national showing, The Heart Truth's First Ladies Red Dress Collection is featured at the National First Ladies' Library as the centerpiece of the Library's "Caring Hearts: The Health of a Nation" exhibit.

The Heart Truth Road Show traveled to six U.S. cities this past spring to provide free heart disease risk factor screenings and disseminate educational materials. Co-presented by Diet Coke and General Mills, the exhibit featured six designer red dresses worn by celebrities in the Red Dress Collection Fashion Shows. Cities included: Minnesota, MN, Houston, TX, Los Angeles, CA, Charlotte, NC, New York, NY, and Atlanta, GA.

In the spring of 2008, The Heart Truth Road Show had its largest tour to date, stopping at 10 cities across the US, bringing free screenings, the Red Dress display, and educational materials to women who remain under-informed about heart disease. The cities included: Minneapolis, Cincinnati, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Birmingham, Charleston, Houston, Dallas, and West Palm Beach.
