To support the exhibition Latina/o Visual Imaginary: Intersection of Word & Image and related catalogue. New work by artists Pepon Osorio (Puerto Rico) and Chicana artist/writer Amalia Mesa-Bains will explore narrative interactions between text and image; the work of additional Latina/o artists Yreina Cervantez, Viva Paredes, Spain Rodriguez, Elena Baca, Kai Margarida-Ramirez, and Jose Montoya will be exhibited to support the visual, verbal, and textual nature of the exhibit.

To support Emerge, a series of strategic planning and professional development programs. Project activities will include seminars; a curated exhibition with an illustrated catalogue of work by 22 panel-selected artists; and a web-based platform for more than 250 Emerge alumni to expand their exhibition opportunities and cultivate new audiences. Emerge NEXT will offer thematically focused seminars in response to Emerge alumni requests for continued career guidance.

To support a residency opportunity for visual artists to create, interpret, and present new work. The residency will provide an opportunity for three American artists to spend a year in Rome in the historic setting on the Janiculum, one of the highest hills within the walls of Rome, and will include housing, a studio, meals, and a stipend.

To support the Bray's 60th anniversary celebration and an artist residency program. Residency activities will include public demonstrations and an exhibition of representative work by 12 participating artists who will receive studio space, housing, an honorarium, a materials budget, and transportation.

Armory Center for the Arts

To support Art Throughout Pasadena, a public art program. Organized by the Armory in collaboration with the City of Pasadena Cultural Affairs Department, large-scale public art works by 10 artists will be commissioned and installed in unused parks, vacant lots, grassy median strips, and unused storefronts.

The program will invite up to nine artists selected by guest curators to produce and exhibit new work at Artpace in San Antonio during a two-month residency that will provide housing, work space, technical assistance, transportation costs, and a stipend.

To support Aspect: The Chronicle of New Media Art, a bi-annual DVD publication of works of time-based contemporary art. Two volumes titled Hi-Tech and Africa will each present five to ten time-based works accompanied by audio commentary by a curator or critic. Hi-Tech will survey artists who have adapted emerging technologies to suit their artistic goals, and Africa will focus on new media work that offers a better understanding of the multitude of cultures existing on the continent.

Ballroom Cultural Arts Foundation (aka Ballroom Marfa)

To support the presentation of Marfa's 2011 exhibition series. The World According to New Orleans, curated by Dan Cameron will interpret the art of New Orleans through the work of seven artists who live and work in the city and whose careers span a half-century; the film West of East, North of South by film and video artist Meredith Danluck will be the centerpiece of an exhibition by the same name that will include newly-commissioned works by visual artists and literary writers invited to respond to the film.

To support the exhibitions Born Again and In Progress: Works Re/Created at Longwood Gallery. Born Again, by Bronx-based multidisciplinary artist Nicolás Dumit Estevez, deals with migration and cultural assimilation. Curated by Wanda Raimundi-Ortiz, In Progress: Works Re/Created will ask selected artists to utilize objects that are normally discarded or recycled to create new work exploring themes of culture, migration, and the politics of gender, and race.

The three-day symposium offered free-of-charge will feature a keynote address by Glenn Adamson, Deputy Head of Research and Graduate Studies at the Victoria and Albert Museum; presentations related to the advancement of critical dialogue on craft practice, theory, and history; evening performances; tours; and a publication of symposium proceedings.

The comprehensive dissemination effort is expected to increase awareness for the center's collections, exhibitions archives, and research library to a broad audience and will include the creation of a survey exhibition of the center's collections for display at the center and for travel nationwide; a publication of an accompanying collections exhibition catalogue; the planning of a range of complementary outreach and public programs; and the development of website improvements to heighten visibility and accessibility.

To support the installation of a James Turrell Skyspace in Philadelphia. Turrell (b. 1943), an internationally acclaimed light artist and a recipient of Guggenheim and MacArthur Fellowships, has donated a Skyspace design to the Chestnut Hill Friends Meetinghouse.

To support the exhibition Now is the Moment for Ink: Contemporary Chinese Ink Painting In America, with related catalogue and public programs. A survey of the development and flourishing of the ink painting tradition in the United States, the exhibition is being collaboratively organized by and exhibited at the galleries of the Chinese Cultural Center and San Francisco State University, and will be accompanied by a scholarly catalogue and education programs and is expected to tour to Sweden.

To support the Social Practices: Living as Form, a project to transform the Essex Street Market into a living laboratory of social art projects. In collaboration with the Lower East Side Tenement Museum, ABC No Rio, Bluestockings Bookstore, E-Flux, and the Abrons Art Center, Creative Time will invite as many as 30 national and international artists to produce new works that imagine alternative models of community development.

The exhibition of work by Ralston Crawford (1906-1978) will include approximately 80 photographs, prints, paintings, and films inspired by trips to New Orleans from 1949 to 1978 and feature his use of natural, urban, and industrial subjects in paintings; photographs of African American musicians; and motifs he captured in paintings of New Orleans area cemeteries.
