LactMed is peer-reviewed and fully referenced database of drugs to which breastfeeding mothers may be exposed. Among the data included are maternal and infant levels of drugs, possible effects on breastfed infants and on lactation, and alternate drugs to consider. It is available on the NLM Toxnet system
LIVERTOX provides up-to-date, accurate, and easily accessed information on the diagnosis, cause, frequency, patterns, and management of liver injury attributable to prescription and nonprescription medications, herbals and dietary supplements. LIVERTOX also includes a case registry that will enable scientific analysis and better characterization of the clinical patterns of liver injury. The LIVERTOX website provides a comprehensive resource for physicians and their patients, and for clinical academicians and researchers who specialize in idiosyncratic drug induced hepatotoxicity.

LIVERTOX content produced by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) and The National Library of Medicine (NLM) is in the public domain and its free use is encouraged. It is requested that any subsequent published use be given appropriate acknowledgement.
DailyMed is available at the National Library of Medicine. It provides high quality information about marketed drugs. This information includes FDA approved labels (package inserts). This Web site provides health information providers and the public with a standard, comprehensive, up-to-date, look-up and download resource of medication content and labeling as found in medication package inserts.
Other information about prescription drugs may also be available. NLM regularly processes data files uploaded from FDA's system and provides and maintains this Web site for the public to use in accessing the information.
The Dietary Supplements Labels Database contains information on the ingredients of over 2,000 brands of dietary supplements sold in the U.S. and is designed to help not only researchers, but the large audience of supplement consumers as well. While consumer-oriented information about dietary supplements is available from many sources, this database consolidates and centralizes the information that consumers require to make informed decisions about supplements and provides direct links to pertinent health information, fact sheets, research findings and on-going clinical studies at the National Institutes of Health (NIH)

The U.S. National Institutes of Health, through its National Library of Medicine, has developed ClinicalTrials.gov to provide patients, family members and members of the public current information about clinical research studies. Before searching, you may want to learn more about clinical trials and more about this Web site. Check often for regular updates to ClinicalTrials.gov.

The Pillbox Database was developed by the National Library of Medicine (NLM) in collaboration with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to aid in the identification of unknown solid dosage pharmaceuticals. The system combines high-resolution images of tablets and capsules with FDA-approved appearance information (imprint, shape, color, etc.) to allow users to visually search for and identify an unknown solid dosage pharmaceutical. The system allows users to identify solid dosage forms based on physical criteria: imprint (characters or number printed on a medication), shape, color, size, and scoring. Users are shown thumbnail images of possible matches. These images are continually updated as the user enters additional information. Once a solid dosage form has been identified, additional information is provided, including brand/generic name, ingredients, drug class, DEA Schedule, and the National Drug File identification number. Links are provided to NLM drug information resources, such as FDA-approved label information (DailyMed) and the Drug Information Portal, which searches all NLM drug information resources.Disclaimer Pillbox is currently under development and is not intended for clinical use.

Detailed Summary

The Hazardous Substances Databank covers the toxicity and biomedical effects of chemicals. It focuses on the toxicology of potentially hazardous chemicals. It is enhanced with information on human exposure, industrial hygiene, emergency handling procedures, environmental fate, regulatory requirements, and related areas. All data are referenced and derived from a core set of books, government documents, technical reports and selected primary journal literature. HSDB is peer-reviewed by the Scientific Review Panel (SRP), a committee of experts in the major subject areas within the data bank's scope. HSDB is organized into individual chemical records, and contains over 5000 such records
PubMed, available via the NCBI Entrez retrieval system, was developed by the National Library of Medicine (NLM), located at the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH). Entrez is the text-based search and retrieval system used at NLM for services PubMed provides access to citations from biomedical literature. LinkOut provides access to full-text articles at journal Web sites and other related Web resources. The primary component of PubMed is MEDLINE. MEDLINE is the NLM's premier bibliographic database that contains references to journal articles in the life sciences with a concentration on biomedicine. A distinctive feature of MEDLINE is that the records are indexed with NLM's Medical Subject Headings (MeSH). The database contains citations from 1950 to the present, with some older material.
The TOXLINE database containes citations to the toxicological literature that is available under the TOXNET system. It contains citations to:

Technical reports and research projects: NTIS, CRISP, TSCATS, and FEDRIP.

Special Journal and other research literature, DART, RISKLINE, and CIS Archival collection (no longer being updated on TOXLINE):
BIOSIS, IPA, EMIC, ETIC, ANEUPL, EPIDEM, HMTC, NIOSH, PESTAB, and PPBIB.

For more information on the TOXLINE components, please visit the NLM TOXLINE Fact Sheet.

Citations from the toxicology subset of PubMed is now available in TOXLINE, and answers will display this content also.
PubChem contains the chemical structures of small organic molecules and information on their biological activities. It was developed by the National Library of Medicine of the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) to support the Molecular Libraries and Imaging component of the NIH Roadmap Initiative. PubChem's chemical structure database may be searched on the basis of descriptive terms, chemical properties, and structural similarity. When possible, PubChem's chemical structure records are linked to other NCBI databases. These include the PubMed scientific literature database, for example, and NCBI's protein 3D structure database. PubChem also contains the results of high-throughput biological screening experiments.
The NIAID anti-HIV / OI Chemical Compound Database. This database contains over 159,500 compounds that have been tested against HIV, HIV enzymes or opportunistic pathogens. this database can be searched by chemical name or synonym, chemical or therapeutic class, the company that has tested or is developing the compound, CAS number, NSC number, molecular formula, or molecular weight. All compounds are linked to the Anti-HIV in-vitro and enzyme databases as well as the anti-OI and bibliographic databases.
ChemIDplus is a chemical dictionary file for over 380,000 compounds of biomedical and regulatory interest. Records include CAS Registry Numbers and other identifying numbers, molecular formulae, generic names, trivial names, other synonyms, MeSH headings, and file locators which lead users to other files on the ELHILL® and TOXNET® systems. In addition, SUPERLIST provides names and other data used to describe chemicals on over 30 key federal and state regulatory lists.
