Notes on Completing the DRTS Form for NHGRI Investigators

The Designation of Reimbursement for Travel and Subsistence (DRTS) form should be completed online in the Protocol Tracking and Management System (PTMS).

NHGRI investigators should consider the following points when filling out the "Protocol-Specific Reimbursement Rate" box of the the Designation of Reimbursement for Travel and Subsistence (DRTS) Form:

  • Air/Train Travel: Most NHGRI patient-subjects travel on 100% government rate. If you are not paying for their trip please put in 0% (or else the patient-subjects will automatically be reimbursed at the government rate.)

  • Local Transportation: Most NHGRI patient-subjects are not reimbursed for local travel except under extenuating circumstances.

  • Long Distance Transportation: Most NHGRI patient-subjects are reimbursed the government rate mileage in long distance travel.

  • Meals: Although we have been reimbursing $20/day for patient-subjects, the government rate is $64/day. Discussion among various investigators suggested that reimbursement may vary depending on the number of family members being reimbursed and access to a kitchen during their stay. Between $20 and $35/day seems acceptable but is at the discretion of the Investigator.
