WELCOME to the National Council on Patient Information and Education
One of the original patient safety coalitions, NCPIE has been working to advance the safe, appropriate use of medicines through enhanced communication since 1982.

27th Annual "TALK ABOUT PRESCRIPTIONS" Month

This October marks NCPIE’s 27th national Talk About Prescriptions” Month (TAP Month). This year, our theme for TAP Month is “Voices Together”. This theme signifies the impact that many voices - rather than one - can have on promoting safe and appropriate medicine use through better medicine communication. Voices Together also helps illustrate the patient-centered Medicine Education Team – espoused by NCPIE to reflect the critical importance of high-quality patient – healthcare provider communication whenever medications are part of the treatment regimen. This year’s TAP program will feature a rich inventory of educational resources and messages that you can choose from to develop a TAP program in your community. Read the Press Release.

2012 is NCPIE’s 30th anniversary year. Incorporated in October 1982, the NCPIE coalition, through the strength and commitment of its diverse membership, continues to play a leadership role in stimulating and improving communication of information on safe and appropriate medicine use to consumers and healthcare professionals. NCPIE members includes close to 100 organizations representing consumers and patients, healthcare providers, voluntary health agencies, government agencies, and pharmaceutical manufacturers.

This milestone anniversary year NCPIE will introduce change to how we communicate to our members, the general public, healthcare providers, and the media as we integrate social media strategies into our communications planning and outreach. Watch for NCPIE on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube in the days to come. To learn more about NCPIE please visit About Us and Membership.

Acetaminophen is found in more than 600 different medicines — both prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) pain relievers, fever reducers, and sleep aids as well as cough, cold, and allergy medicines. Acetaminophen is safe and effective when it is used according to the label directions, but taking too much acetaminophen can be harmful. The Acetaminophen Safe Use College Resource Guide, the Acetaminophen Safe Use Program for Teen Influencers, and the Acetaminophen Safe Use for Seniors are newly developed public awareness programs that integrate tailored messaging, free downloads and useful links to external resources on the safe use of acetaminophen-containing products (OTC and Rx). These educational materials can be used either online or in your community in order to better understand how to use acetaminophen containing products properly and avoid misuse.
