October: National Disability Employment Awareness Month

In honor of October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month, the Department of Defense (DoD) observes the theme, "A Strong Workforce is an Inclusive Workforce: What Can YOU Do?" The DoD and other federal agencies have taken steps towards increasing employment of individuals with disabilities since the first commemoration of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, more than two decades ago.

On July 26, 2010, President Obama signed Executive Order 13548 to strengthen the government's commitment to hiring employees with disabilities for a more diverse workforce. By leveraging new recruitment strategies and hosting Department-wide disability summits, the DoD and WHS demonstrate initiative in recognizing the important contributions of all individuals.
