Claims Resolution Act of 2010

On December 8, 2010, President Obama signed into law the Claims Resolution Act of 2010, which provided an additional $1.15 billion (additional to the $100 million already provided in the 2008 Farm Bill) to fund a Settlement Agreement reached by counsel for the black farmers and counsel for the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) on February 18, 2010. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said "The Claims Settlement Act will allow those that have been wait-ing to get the relief they deserve and have long been promised. USDA has worked with Congress to include strong protections against waste, fraud, and abuse and ensure that only deserving applicants are reimbursed under this settlement."
