About this Topic

As part of its capital punishment collection, the corrections unit maintains statistics on persons executed under civil authority. Counts of individuals executed, by state, have been obtained on an annual basis since 1930. In an effort to provide the latest information on executions, the Bureau of Justice Statistics also provides a preliminary count individuals executed on an ongoing basis.
