Program Description

The Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE) supports innovative grants and cooperative agreements to improve postsecondary education. It supports reforms, innovations, and significant improvements of postsecondary education that respond to problems of national significance and serve as national models. Under the FIPSE Program, the Secretary may make grants for special projects concerning areas of national need.

Types of Projects

For FY 2009 there were Special Focus Competitions addressing these invitational priorities:

Graduate Programs at Institutions of Higher Education Serving Hispanic Americans (84.116V)

Under this priority, we are particularly interested in projects that propose innovative efforts to expand graduate-level academic offerings at colleges that enroll a significant number of Hispanic American students.

College Course Materials Rental Initiative (84.116Y)

Under this priority, we are particularly interested in projects that propose innovative efforts to increase opportunities for students to rent college course materials.
