Founded in 1949, United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) is committed to change and progress for persons with disabilities. The national organization and its nationwide network of more than 100 affiliates in 37 states, and the District of Columbia, strive to ensure the inclusion of persons with disabilities in every facet of society - from the Web to the workplace, from the classroom to the community. As one of the largest health charities in America, UCP's mission is to advance the independence, productivity and full citizenship of people with cerebral palsy and other disabilities, through our commitment to the principles of independence, inclusion and self-determination.
UCP strives to build a better world for tomorrow-today. The national office, located in Washington, DC, provides key services for its affiliates. On a national level, UCP takes an advocacy role on behalf of people with cerebral palsy and other disabilities, develops best-practice program models, supports medical and technological research and the training of professional and scientists, provides a toll-free information and referral service, conducts programs to educate the public about cerebral palsy and other disabilities, and provides services and assistance to UCP affiliates nationwide. UCP's more than 100 state and local affiliates provide a wide variety of direct programs and services to people with disabilities and assistive technology training and attainment, community living, individual and family support, social and recreational programs, advocacy, and information and referral services.
