Centennial Rocket Launch
October 5, 2012 - High above Earth the International Space Station crew member, NASA Commander Sunita Williams, will welcome New Mexico teachers and students and will commence the countdown - "10-9-8 . . .3 - 2 - 1 Blast Off!" - as 100 rockets from 100 New Mexico schoolyards will launch simultaneously skyward (weather and safety conditions permitting) on Thursday, October 11, 2012, at 10:30 a.m.
Deputy Cabinet Secretary Named
August 30, 2012 - Michael Scott Delello has been named Deputy Cabinet Secretary of the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs. Delello is a former presidential appointee who held positions of Congressional Liaison, Special Assistant and Advisor under George H.W. Bush (Sr.). He will start his new position at Cultural Affairs on September 4.
Jeff Pappas, Ph.D. Named as New Mexico
State Historic Preservation Officer
July 16, 2012 - Governor Susana Martinez has approved the appointment of Dr. Jeff Pappas to lead the New Mexico Historic Preservation Division of the Department of Cultural Affairs, Cabinet Secretary Veronica Gonzales announced today. Pappas will commence work as the State Historic Preservation Officer (SHPO) and Historic Preservation Division Director on August 20, 2012.
New Mexico Museum of Space History Director Announced
June 21, 2012 - Governor Susana Martinez has approved the appointment of a new director to lead the New Mexico Museum of Space History, a division of the Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA). DCA Cabinet Secretary Veronica Gonzales announced the appointment of Christopher Orwoll, former President and CEO of the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center, as the new director of the museum in Alamogordo. Orwoll will assume his new post on June 25.
