Preventive Medicine & Public Health Training Grant Program

Preventive Medicine and Public Health Training grants fund 

  • The planning, development (including curricula development), operation, and participation in an accredited residency or internship program in preventive medicine and public health.
  • The establishment, maintenance or improvement of academic administrative units in preventive medicine and public health or programs that improve clinical teaching in preventive medicine and public health.

Most of the funding should be used for trainee costs, which may include 

  • tuition for the master’s degree in public health or other master’s degree related to the preventive medicine specialty of the residency, and 
  • fees, stipends (living allowance), and prior approved travel for attending professional development opportunities associated with the residency program.  

Trainee support is limited to 24 months, and typically focuses on the second and third year of postgraduate training, which would be the academic and the practicum year.  

Eligible Applicants

  • Accredited schools of public health 
  • Accredited schools of allopathic or osteopathic medicine
  • Accredited public or private nonprofit hospitals
  • State, local or tribal health departments
  • Consortia of two or more eligible entities
