WASHINGTON, March 6, 2012 - Tyson Prepared Foods, Inc., a South Hutchinson, Kan. establishment is recalling
approximately 12,060 pounds of pizza topping products because of misbranding and an undeclared allergen. The packaging
identifies the products as beef, but they actually contain pork. Additionally, the pork products contain soy, a known potential
allergen, which is not declared on the label.
The following products are subject to recall:
- 10-pound cartons labeled as "Cooked Pizza Topping" containing two, 5-pound packages labeled as "ARREZZIO-COOKED BEEF PIZZA TOPPING MANZO COTTO PER PIZZA."
The products also bear the establishment number "EST. 623" inside the USDA mark of inspection on the label. The products
were produced Jan. 12, 2012, and were sold to foodservice institutions nationwide via a distributor. The product is intended for use
in restaurants or institutional food operations; it is not sold in retail grocery stores.
The problem was reported by a product purchaser. FSIS and the company have received no reports of adverse reactions due to consumption
of these products. Anyone concerned about a reaction should contact a healthcare provider.
FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps
are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers.
Consumers with questions about the recall should contact Tyson Consumer Relations at 866-328-3156. Media with questions about the recall
should contact the company's Director of Public Relations, Gary Mickelson, at (479) 290-6111.
