Washington, DC -- Tickets for the National Endowment for the Arts 2012 Jazz Masters Award ceremony and concert will be available to the public on Tuesday, November 1, 2011. The award ceremony and concert that each year recognizes the newest members of this elite group of jazz artists and will also celebrate 30 years of honoring the best of jazz. The NEA Jazz Masters awards recognize outstanding musicians for their lifetime achievements and significant contributions to the development of jazz. The 2012 NEA Jazz Masters are drummer, keyboardist, and composer Jack DeJohnette; saxophonist Von Freeman; bassist, composer, and educator Charlie Haden; vocalist and educator Sheila Jordan; and educator, trumpeter, flugelhorn player, composer, and arranger Jimmy Owens, recipient of the 2012 A.B. Spellman NEA Jazz Masters Award for Jazz Advocacy. The concert will be held on January 10, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. at Rose Theater at Frederick P. Rose Hall, home of Jazz at Lincoln Center. In addition to the performances and award presentations, the evening will feature video tributes to each of the 2012 NEA Jazz Masters. Tickets are free and can be reserved beginning November 1, 2011 either online at jalc.org/concerts or in person at the Jazz at Lincoln Center Box Office, located at Broadway at 60th Street, ground floor. The box office is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., as well as Sundays, 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Limit two tickets per person. "The webcast and radio broadcast will extend the event far beyond the concert hall, connecting these Americans legends to millions of listeners." "Bringing together our community to celebrate the 2012 NEA Jazz Masters as well as the 30th anniversary of the nation’s highest honor in jazz is a great privilege for Jazz at Lincoln Center," said Adrian Ellis, executive director, Jazz at Lincoln Center. Those unable to attend in person can enjoy the performance via live webcast at arts.gov and jalc.org at 7:30 p.m. EST. The concert will be broadcast live on WBGO Jazz 88.3FM and SiriusXM Satellite Radio's Real Jazz Channel XM67. A video archive of the concert will also be available at arts.gov following the event. Prior to the concert, the 2012 NEA Jazz Masters and their fellow NEA Jazz Masters will gather for a 30th anniversary group photo opportunity. About NEA Jazz Masters Each year since 1982, the Arts Endowment has conferred the NEA Jazz Masters Award to living legends who have made major contributions to jazz. With this new class, 124 awards have been given to great figures of jazz in America, including Count Basie, Dave Brubeck, Sonny Rollins, and Nancy Wilson. NEA Jazz Masters are selected from nominations submitted by the public and receive a one-time fellowship award of $25,000, are honored at a public awards ceremony, and may participate in NEA-sponsored promotional, performance, and educational activities. Only living musicians or jazz advocates may be nominated for the NEA Jazz Masters honor.
