Chairman Rocco Landesman Releases the Schedule for His Visit to Providence, Rhode Island, September 28-29, 2012September 27, 2012 MEDIA ADVISORY
Washington, DC -- NEA Chairman Rocco Landesman will visit Providence, Rhode Island, September 28 and 29, 2012, for a series of events including an announcement with Senator Jack Reed and Theatre Communications Group; a speech at the Better World By Design conference; the Pawtucket Film Festival; and FirstWorks Festival: On the Plaza in 2012. On Friday, September 28 at 1:45 p.m., Landesman will join Senator Jack Reed and Theatre Communications Group (TCG) at Trinity Repertory Company to announce the launch of Blue Star Theatres. Blue Star Theatres is a partnership between TCG and Blue Star Families, with support from MetLife Foundation, to connect a variety of theater offerings to military personnel across the United States. At 3:00 p.m. Landesman will speak at the Better World By Design conference, held on the campuses of Rhode Island School of Design and Brown University. This completely student-organized conference brings a global community of innovators together to reach across disciplines and unite under a common goal: building a better world. Lastly, on the evening of September 28th, Landesman will join Senator Sheldon Whitehouse and Pawtucket Mayor Donald Grebien at the Pawtucket Film Festival. On Saturday, September 29, Landesman will attend the FirstWorks Festival: On the Plaza in 2012 at Greater Kennedy Plaza. In 2011, the City of Providence received an NEA Our Town grant to support the Creative Capital Hub, a project which will re-envision the Greater Kennedy Plaza as a grand plaza and central gathering place for the city's residents, tourists, and workers. Landesman will first participate as a special guest fire lighter at WaterFire Providence. He will then join Providence Mayor Angel Taveras and Kathleen Pletcher, executive/artistic director of FirstWorks, at Greater Kennedy Plaza, where he will give remarks and watch a performance by Bandaloop.
