HEDIS ( Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set) is a set of standardized performance measures designed to ensure that consumers have the information they need to reliably compare the performance of healthcare plans. The performance measures in HEDIS are related to many significant public health issues such as cancer, heart disease, smoking, asthma and diabetes. HEDIS also includes a standardized survey of consumers' experiences that evaluates plan performance in areas such as customer service, access to care and claims processing. HEDIS is sponsored, supported and maintained by the National Committee for Quality Assurance.
Results from HMO and FFS plans are shown below; however, not all plans are required to collect data on every measure. FFS plans only collect measures using administrative data sources, therefore, they're only required to collect and report on six measures. Beginning this year, the FEHB average shown in the results is computed separately for HMOs and FFS plans. The 2012 results are based on testing performed in the previous year.
