The Office of Communications and Outreach leads ED's communications and outreach efforts. Led by Assistant Secretary Peter Cunningham, OCO oversees press relations, publications, contacts with organizations, and communication with parents, educators, students, and citizens.

OCO is responsible for:

• Customer service

• Video, television, and webcasts, including the monthly ED TV show, Education News

• Recognition programs: NCLB Blue Ribbon Schools, Presidential Scholars, Presidential Education Awards
