As of 2008, 85 percent of people 25 years and over had graduated from high school and 28 percent had a bachelor's degree or higher. The total school enrollment in the United States was 79.9 million. Nursery school and kindergarten enrollment was 9.2 million and elementary or high school enrollment was 49.4 million students. The 2010 Census count determines how more that $400 billion in federal funds are allocated to state, local and tribal areas. This money directly affects funds for schools, Title 1 programs, special education and college grant and loan programs.
