ICS Training Opportunities

  • Introduction to the National Incident Management System (NIMS): Provides training on and resources for the National Incident Management System (NIMS). NIMS provides a consistent nationwide template to enable all government, private sector, and nongovernmental organizations to work together during domestic incidents. The primary target audiences for this course are Department of Agriculture emergency response and support personnel and individuals who wish to improve their knowledge and understanding of NIMS. There are no prerequisites for this course. The course is designed so that it can be taken via the Internet or from a CD-ROM.   • Introduction to National Response Plan (NRP): Provides training on and resources for the National Response Plan (NRP). The NRP specifies how the resources of the Federal Government will work in concert with State, local, and tribal governments and the private sector to respond to Incidents of National Significance. The NRP is predicated on the National Incident Management System, or NIMS. Together the NRP and the NIMS provide a nationwide framework for working cooperatively to prevent or respond to threats and incidents regardless of cause, size, or complexity. The primary target audiences for this course are Department of Agriculture emergency response and support personnel and individuals who wish to improve their knowledge and understanding of NIMS. There are no prerequisites for this course. The course is designed so that it can be taken via the Internet or from a CD-ROM.   • ICS-100: Introduction to ICS: Provides training on and resources for personnel who require a basic understanding of the Incident Command System (ICS). The primary target audiences for this course are all Department of Agriculture emergency response and support personnel. Secondary audiences include State and local personnel who may respond to incidents. Introduction to NIMS is a prerequisite for this course.   • ICS-200: Basic ICS: Provides training on and resources for personnel who are likely to assume a supervisory position within the Incident Command System (ICS). The primary target audiences for this course are all Department of Agriculture emergency response and support personnel at the supervisory level. Secondary audiences include State and local personnel who may respond to incidents and be assigned a lead role responsibility. The prerequisite for this course is ICS-100.   • ICS-300: Intermediate ICS for Expanding Incidents: Provides training on and resources for personnel who will hold supervisory positions within the Incident Command System (ICS). The primary target audience for this course is Department of Agriculture personnel who will hold supervisory positions at the Division/Group, Unit Leader and Command and General staff levels within the Incident Command System (ICS). Secondary audiences include State and local personnel who may respond to incidents and be assigned a lead role responsibility. The prerequisites for this course are ICS-100 and ICS-200. The course consists of two days of classroom training where the ICS Planning Process is taught and reinforced through exercises. Prior to attending the classroom training, all participants must take the pre-course overview of ICS-300 via the Internet or from a CD-ROM.   • ICS-400: Command and General Staff - Complex Incidents: Emphasizes large-scale organizational development, roles and relationships of the command and general staff, and planning, operational, logistical and fiscal considerations related to large and complex incident and event management. The course also describes the application of Area Command and the importance of interagency coordination on complex incidents and events. ICS-400 is delivered in a classroom setting and is approximately 24 hours long. The target audience for the course is all personnel who serve in ICS Command and General Staff positions.   • Multi-Agency Coordination (I-401): Discusses the roles and relationships of the Emergency Operation Center and the Multi-Agency Coordination Group (MAC). The course is delivered in a classroom setting and is approximately four hours long. This course is required for individuals who will serve on a MAC group and is highly recommended for individuals assigned to an Emergency Operations Center.   • ICS For Executives (I-402): An orientation of the Incident Command System designed for executives, administrators and policy makers. The course provides a basic understanding of ICS for individuals who establish or implement policy but who are normally not part of the on-scene ICS organization. I-402 is delivered in a classroom setting and is approximately two hours long. The course is highly recommended for executives, administrators and policy makers.
