Resources for Teaching History in California:

These pages are designed to provide you, California's classroom teacher, with ideas and resources for using primary source documents from the National Archives in your classroom. The introductory sections will provide you with information about the National Archives and Records Administration as well as an exercise that will assist you in introducing your students to the importance role played by historical documents.

Also included are sections that include resources relating to the state standards at each grade level. The title page for each lesson plan includes the applicable state history standard. Each section also includes a brief historical sketch, some suggested activities, descriptions and citations for the documents, and copies of the primary source documents themselves.

For each grade level, we have also included the correlations to California standards for the documents and lesson plans available at www.OurDocuments.gov.

We hope you find this material to be useful and informative. Thank you for your interest in the National Archives and the documents it protects.
