CDC’s Division of Diabetes Translation (DDT) announces:
Surveillance, Natural History, Quality of Care, and Outcomes of
Diabetes Mellitus with Onset in Childhood and Adolescence
This 5-year program is expected to provide estimates of trends in the incidence of diabetes for ages 0–19 years by type and race/ethnicity and support research aimed at assessing the incidence of diabetes-related complications, quality of care, quality of life, and mortality by diabetes type and race/ethnicity.
The program will achieve this goal by building on a 10-year collaborative multicenter research project called SEARCH for Diabetes in Youth, grantees will use sentinel surveillance network of diabetes registries in racial/ethnic, socio-economic, and geographically diverse populations to document trends in diabetes incidence in youth population 20 years old or younger by type and race-ethnicity. Grantees will also conduct a multicenter 5-year study to assess the incidence of both acute and chronic diabetes-related complications and their biological and socio-cultural risk factors, quality of life, and mortality in a diverse population of youth with diabetes.
