National Physician Referral Service
The American Lyme Disease Foundation does not give medical advice. However, it does maintain a national physician referral list of board-certified physicians who have received our health-care information and are, to varying degrees, familiar with the diagnosis and treatment of Lyme disease and other tick-borne infections. Please note that the Foundation is not in a position to evaluate the professional qualifications and competence of individual physicians. The inclusion of a physician on this list should not be interpreted as an endorsement by the Foundation regarding his or her competence.
Many physicians may not consider tick-borne diseases in diagnosing your illness unless you report being bitten by a tick or reside in (or have recently visited) a tick-infested area. If you have symptoms that suggest Lyme disease or any other tick-borne infection, be sure to alert your physician to all relevant facts.

If your state is not included in the above list, we recommend that you contact a major medical facility or hospital in your area for referrals to Infectious Diseases specialists. Before making an appointment with a physician, ask about his or her experience with tick-borne diseases. Confirm that the physician is familiar with Lyme disease symptomology, appropriate laboratory tests and their interpretation, and established treatment guidelines, or, at the very least, is willing to consult with a knowledgeable physician.
If you cannot find a suitable physician locally and are willing to travel, or need the name of a knowledgeable physician with whom your doctor can consult, feel free to e-mail us (see below) for a referral.
