Department of Justice
The Department of Justice (DOJ) is responsible for enforcing Federal laws and ensuring fair and impartial administration of justice for all Americans. Through the Bureau of Prisons, DOJ operates the largest correctional facility system in the U.S. with just under 218,000 offenders. Among those inmates are approximately 1,500 individuals being treated for HIV or AIDS. DOJ’s Civil Rights Division works to eradicate discrimination against people with disabilities, including those with HIV/AIDS, by implementing the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
