Introduction to Criminal Investigation Training Program (ICITP)

The ICITP is designed to acquaint the non-criminal investigator student with the procedures, techniques, legal concerns, and general problems associated with a criminal investigation. The program focuses on the role of the criminal investigator and emphasizes interviewing skills and legal requirements. Combining classroom lectures and practical exercises in the program allows students to better comprehend the various investigative procedures.

Type: Advanced

Length: 9 class days – Class starts at 0730 (7:30 am) each morning and does not end until 1630 (4:30 pm) each day, including the graduation day. See attached sample schedule.

Instructors

Instructors in the Introduction to Criminal Investigation Training Program (ICITP) are current and former Federal law enforcement officers with substantial experience as criminal investigators in such agencies as The U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigations, U.S. Secret Service, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the U.S. Marshals Service.  All legal instructors are lawyers with operational law enforcement and courtroom experience.

Prerequisites for Attendance

Although the ICITP provides an overview of the criminal investigative process and focuses on the role of the criminal investigator, it is designed for non-criminal investigator personnel. Specifically in mind are regulatory and compliance inspectors, paralegals, auditors, technical personnel, and others who might assist in a criminal investigation, be required to testify in a criminal matter, or refer a matter to court for criminal investigators.

Additional Information

Dress / Attire: During normal class hours, business casual. For the class photograph and the interviewing practical exercise, business attire (suit) is required.

Testing: This program is academically tested with two (2) comprehensive written multiple-choice examinations requiring the student to average a 70% for receipt of a training certificate, with no remediation.
