BJA Provides $27m to Drug Courts and Mental Health Programs Add to Favorite

On October 4, BJA announced it awarded $27 million under the Drug Court Program and the Justice and Mental Health Collaboration Program in FY 2012. These two BJA programs provide assistance and support for states, tribes and localities offering specialized services for individuals within the justice system who have substance abuse and mental health disorders

View the Problem-Solving Process (SARA) and SPI Webinar Add to Favorite

The recent "Problem-Solving Process (SARA) and SPI" webinar, Q&A, and supplemental reading have been posted on the Smart Policing Initiative (SPI) web site. The centerpiece of the webinar involved presentations from SPI sites (Boston, Glendale, Lowell, and Palm Beach), who described their problem-solving activities to date. These presentations described the problem that the site identified, how it was analyzed, their approach for addressing the problem, impact on the problem to date (e.g., results), challenges to success for their SPI, and advice they would give to others.

On October 10, OJP and the COPS Office teamed up with the International Association of Chiefs of Police on an Officer Safety and Wellness Police Suicide Webcast as part of our ongoing efforts to protect the health and safety of law enforcement officers. The purpose of the webcast is to raise awareness among law enforcement about the issue of police suicide and to provide practical information and resources on prevention.
