Assistant Secretary for Special Education and Rehabilitative Services Alexa Posny will lead a panel with the Commissioner of the National Center for Special Education Research Deborah Speece on “Research and Policy Issues in Special Education,” as part of the American Educational Research Association (AERA) 2012 Annual Meeting in Vancouver, British Columbia on Monday, April 16. Posny and Speece will discuss current research and policy in special education as it relates to the Department’s programs and initiatives. The AERA is concerned with improving the educational process by encouraging scholarly inquiry related to education and evaluation and by promoting the dissemination and practical application of research results.

The five-day AERA conference will feature the latest education discoveries on topics ranging from online learning and charter schools, to bullying, racism and student activism.
