Division of Diabetes Treatment and Prevention - Leading the effort to treat and prevent diabetes in American Indians and Alaska Natives

Diabetes Education in Tribal Schools (DETS) Curriculum

This new curriculum for use by teachers and other educators working with children and youth in grades K–12. It is part of a national effort to decrease the incidence and improve the care of type 2 diabetes among American Indians and Alaska Natives. The curriculum was developed through collaboration with the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), American Indian Tribal Colleges and the IHS Division of Diabetes (DDTP).

The DETS Curriculum was developed using a multidisciplinary approach. This educator-ready tool promotes active inquiry-based collaborative learning and comes with extensive background materials for the educator. Information about the different teaching and learning components of the DETS curriculum can be found at the Diabetes Education in Tribal Schools: Health Is Life in Balance website.
