Statement by Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis on congressional passage of Trade Adjustment Assistance for Workers

WASHINGTON — Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis today issued the following statement regarding congressional passage of Trade Adjustment Assistance for Workers:

"Last night, both parties worked together to renew our Trade Adjustment Assistance program for the future, while paving the way for approval of trade agreements with Panama, Colombia and South Korea. TAA ensures that workers who lose their jobs as a result of trade and through no fault of their own will have access to resources, benefits and job training — all of which are essential to a balanced trade agenda.

"As the White House and Congress advance a trade agenda to hasten our nation's economic recovery and get more Americans back to work, we have a responsibility to ensure that American workers impacted by foreign competition have the assistance they need to adapt their skills, provide for their families and succeed in the 21st century."
