Roman L. Hruska U.S. Courthouse

Exterior of the Roman L. Hruska U.S. Courthouse in Omaha, Nebraska111 South 18 Plaza
Omaha, NE 68102

The Roman L. Hruska U.S. Courthouse's four-part atrium roof feature gives the building a unique profile, while allowing natural light to illuminate the atrium. This courthouse was the first in the nation to be commissioned under GSA’s Design Excellence Program.

Two bronze grilles, by artist Stephen Robin, are set into the pre-cast concrete just above the North and South sides of the grand staircase. The cast-bronze grilles measure 22 feet high by 5.5 feet wide. They represent the indigenous grains and flowers of the Midwest and Nebraska - corn, wheat, sunflowers and goldenrod (the state flower of Nebraska).

Mr. Roman L. Hruska was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1954 to fill the unexpired term of the late Senator Hugh Butler and was reelected in 1958, 1964, and 1970. He attended Law School at the University of Omaha, the University of Chicago, and Creighton University where he received his degree.
