Transportation Management Policy Overview

GSA’s mission is to help improve the government’s management of its transportation operations by issuing transportation policy to government agencies.  Our primary focus is on items over 70 pounds including freight, household goods, and shipments associated with purchases made by the government (inbound transportation). Total Federal transportation spend is estimated at $145 Billion annually.

We are responsible for updating the Federal Management Regulation, Subchapter D-Transportation, educating transportation officers, sharing technology and strategic vision, and best practices to better manage transportation spend,  realize savings and reduce environmental impacts.  .

We provide strong leadership and policy expertise, and collaborate with agencies, industry and associations. The Office of Government-wide Policy sponsors councils which meets quarterly with federal agency subject matter experts.
