Progress Through Wind PowerDuring the summer of 2010, GSA installed two wind turbines at the border crossing facility in Jackman, Maine. The turbines greatly reduce the consumption of traditional energy sources by supplying half of the facility’s energy needs with renewable wind power. Aside from the addition of the wind turbines, the port of entry in Jackman was recently renovated and upgraded. A new complex replaced an antiquated facility that was not equipped to process the increased volume of traffic. The project consisted of a new main port building, commercial warehouse, truck inspection building, and a vehicle garage. When the federal government announced plans to place the wind turbines in Jackman as part of GSA’s $5.5 billion Recovery Act effort, Butch Haggan’s excavation company was one of the local businesses that immediately benefited. Because of the project, Haggan was able to expand his business and hire more employees. Watch his story. |
