Open Government Congressional Requests

This information about how GSA handles congressional requests for information helps promote collaboration and transparency about the agency’s processes. It's part of President Barack Obama’s Open Government Initiative.

GSA’s Office of Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs serves as adviser to the administrator and maintains agency liaison with all members of Congress and congressional committees, quickly responding to congressional and Office of Management and Budget inquiries.

Organizational Structure

The agency’s congressional relations and legislative services teams respond to and support congressional affairs. Team members are assigned responsibility for certain subject matter and are proactive in their outreach. They support agency interaction with members of Congress, accompanying GSA staff to Capitol Hill, preparing briefings for congressional hearings or fielding questions on contract awards. All work on appropriations issues is done in cooperation with GSA’s Office of the Chief Financial Officer.

Requests for Information

GSA congressional liaisons serve as a first point of contact for congressional members' offices and committee staff, and deal with a wide range of congressional inquiries. Liaisons respond quickly, generally within 48 hours.

GSA has a full-time congressional liaison dedicated to fielding special requests for information that isn’t readily available. The liaison handles all phone calls, emails and written correspondence, and directs inquiries to the appropriate contact or relevant portion of gsa.gov. For individuals seeking special information, the liaison gathers information from all GSA business lines and services.
