Clinical Strategies and Programs

Preconception curriculum and resources for clinicians and health professionals are available through the Before, Between and Beyond website.

Developed through the National Clinical Workgroup as a part of the National Initiative on Preconception Health and Health Care, this website is a “one stop” resource for providers who want to learn more about preconception health, the history behind the movement, the evidence supporting it and strategies for incorporating relevant content into daily clinical practice. Recommendations are evidence-based and come from a publication, Preconception Health and Health Care: The Clinical Content of Preconception Care available at http://www.beforeandbeyond.org/?page=key-articles-and-studies#AJOG.

Before, Between and Beyond includes the following categories of content:

  • A home page with alerts about “Breaking News” and the availability of new resources
  • Continuing professional education
  • Links to state resources
  • Archives of “Breaking News”
  • Resources for patient education
  • Key articles and guidance
  • Innovations in Practice*

*Innovations in Practice is dedicated to emerging and best practices for translating the concepts of preconception care into the clinical care of today’s busy providers. Innovations in Practice includes strategies for risk assessment, approaches for assessing and addressing reproductive life plans, online resources for assisting patients with behavior change and, within the next few months, a clinical tool kit for preconception care will also be available.   Visitors to Innovations in Practice are encouraged to submit their own innovations to the site through phhcresourcecenter@gmail.com and to visit www.beforeandbeyond.org and the Innovations in Practice tab regularly to keep abreast of what colleagues across the nation are doing to help women and men make deliberate decisions about if and when to  enter into pregnancy and how to achieve the highest levels of health possible prior to conception.
