Artistic Infusion Program

Since 2003, the United States Mint's Artistic Infusion Program has provided the Nation's artists with an opportunity to create beautiful designs for coins that will be enjoyed by all Americans. Since its establishment, the AIP has evolved to include a refined pool of talented American artists representing diverse backgrounds and a variety of interests.

AIP artists have submitted successful designs for coins for the America the Beautiful Quarters ® Program, the Presidential $1 Coin Program and corresponding First Spouse Gold Coins, American Eagle Platinum Proof Coins and several commemorative coins. All selected designs are sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engravers, who also submit designs for coin and medal programs.

Artists in the AIP program are contracted, professional artists. AIP artists are asked to attend a symposium once a year, but may work from any location. Artists may be asked to design several coins and commemorative medals throughout the year as opportunities arise. Artists of selected designs are named as designer in historical documents, Certificates of Authenticity and promotional materials. The United States Mint invites artists from across the country to apply to the Artistic Infusion Program through “Call For Artists.”

Classification of Designers

There are two levels of artists who may participate in the AIP - Master Designers and Associate Designers. Master Designers are those who have proven themselves as valuable AIP artists for at least two years as an Associate Designer.
