TRI is a database containing data on disposal or other releases of over 650 toxic chemicals from thousands of U.S. facilities and information about how facilities manage those chemicals through recycling, energy recovery, and treatment. One of TRI's primary purposes is to inform communities about toxic chemical releases to the environment.

Register Now – Upcoming Webinar for Communities

Registration is open for the next TRI webinar, "An Introduction to the Toxics Release Inventory for Communities", which will be held on November 8, 2012, from 1-2:30 pm EST. The webinar will provide an introduction for community grassroots groups and others who serve as community leaders about how to access and use EPA's TRI data. Announcing the TRI University Engagement Initiative

The TRI Program has launched a new initiative focused on developing sustained, mutually-beneficial relationships with colleges and universities. Beginning this fall, we'll be looking for colleges and universities to collaborate with us on a variety of exciting projects related to using, understanding and increasing awareness of TRI in academic communities. In the meantime, we encourage you to learn more about the TRI University Engagement Initiative, look at the results from our two pilot projects and watch the website for announcements about the upcoming fall application period.

The 2011 TRI Preliminary Dataset is Now Available

The 2011 TRI preliminary dataset contains the most current TRI data available and reflects toxic chemical releases and pollution prevention activities that occurred at TRI facilities during the 2011 calendar year. You can use this dataset to find out what TRI-covered toxic chemicals are being produced and used at industrial facilities in your local area and how they are being managed. The data are available in Envirofacts and in downloadable files.

EPA Finalizes Rule for TRI Reporting in Indian Country

EPA has finalized a rule that provides tribal governments with the right to directly receive TRI information from facilities located in their Indian country. The rule also clarifies the rights of tribal leaders to take an active role in TRI through petitions to modify the TRI chemical list or through requests to add a facility within their Indian country to the TRI Program. This action is part of EPA's ongoing efforts to improve access to information on toxic chemical releases that may affect the local communities in Indian country.
