Nutrition and Hemoglobinopathies Working Group

This Working Group will identify priorities for basic, clinical, translational, and population science research regarding nutrition and diet in individuals with sickle cell disease and other hemoglobinopathies. Discussion topics will focus on:
- Nutritional physiology and clinical nutrition issues (including metabolism, nutrient requirements, nutritional status, growth and development, food intake, and use of nutritive and non-nutritive dietary supplements)
- Collection and analysis of dietary intake data, supplement intake data, and nutritional status data in surveillance and registry studies.
Annual Sickle Cell Disease Clinical Research Meetings

The Annual Sickle Cell Disease Clinical Research Meetings provide updates on clinical trials, basic and translational research and associated activities. Investigators and scholars from the Basic and Translational Research Program in Sickle Cell Disease present results from their projects. Information from clinical research trials and networks including Baby HUG, Neuropsychology II, SITT, SWiTCH, TWiTCH, walk-PHaSST, and the Sickle Cell Disease Clinical Research Network is updated. The status of the Quality of Life Measurement Information System for adults with sickle cell disease will be reviewed. Interest groups also meet to consider pain in sickle cell disease and the provision of care to adults.
