The NIH Pain Consortium is encouraging medical, dental, nursing, and pharmacy schools to respond to a new funding opportunity to develop Centers of Excellence in Pain Education (CoEPEs). On December 30, 2011, a Request for Proposals (RFP) was released to develop and disseminate pain management curriculum resources for health care professionals and to provide leadership for change in pain management education. Letters of intent (encouraged but optional) are due Jan. 24, 2012, and applications are due Mar. 5. Read more at http://painconsortium.nih.gov/

The NIH Pain Consortium was established in 1996 to enhance pain research and promote collaboration among researchers across the many NIH Institutes and Centers that have programs and activities addressing pain. The NHLBI is a member of the consortium. Among the invited topics for CoEPE applications are sickle cell pain and sickle cell pain treatment disparities.
