New Coverage for Women’s Preventive Health Services under Affordable Care Act Begins
August 1 marks a new day for women’s health! It is the turning point when insurance policies will begin a new requirement to cover preventive health care services for women. An expected 47 million women will have guaranteed access to women’s preventive services with zero cost sharing under the Affordable Care Act. In March 2010, Congress passed and the President signed into law the Affordable Care Act, which is a comprehensive health care reform law. The law was enacted in two parts: The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was signed into law and was amended by the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act on March 30, 2010. The name "Affordable Care Act" is used to refer to the final, amended version of the law.
