American Community Survey Data

Accessing data on international migration from the American Community Survey

Information on foreign-born immigration (a component of net international migration) and the stock of the foreign-born population in the United States is available through American FactFinder. Data products such as detailed tables, subject tables, ranking tables, and selected population profiles on a wide range of social, housing, and economic subjects can be easily accessed and require no knowledge of statistical software programs.

Other Data Access Options

Data Ferrett is an online tool for extracting Census Bureau public use data according to your specifications. After reviewing the User Guide, you will be able to create a custom tabulation from your choice of data sets and variables.

The Public Use Microdata Sample files, or PUMS, are a subsample of records in the American Community Survey and include most population and housing characteristics. These files provide users with the flexibility to prepare customized tabulations and can be used for detailed research and analysis. Files have been edited to protect the confidentiality of all individuals and of all individual households. For an overview of the files, visit the ACS PUMS page.

An ACS Summary File is a set of comma-delimited text files that contain all of the Detailed Tables for the ACS 1-year, 3-year or 5-year estimates. The files include all of the Detailed Tables published on the Census Bureau’s American FactFinder as well as additional Detailed Tables not available on American FactFinder.

More information on the American Community Survey can be found on the About the American Community Survey page.
