National Park Service grants help protect our nation's significant historic and cultural sites and preserve our diverse cultural heritage. More than $1 billion has been awarded to Federal, State, and local governments, Native American Tribes, nonprofit organizations and educational institutions for preservation projects in all 50 states and the U.S. Territories.

Non-competitive grants through the Historic Preservation Fund assist State and Tribal Historic Preservation Offices in their efforts to protect and preserve their historic resources. Ten percent of each SHPO's allocation must be subgranted to assist Certified Local Governments, local governments certified by NPS and the state as having made a local commitment to historic preservation.

A 2005 Save America's Treasures grant from the National Park Service was used to conserve eight vehicles from the Studebaker National Museum including the carriage Abraham Lincoln took to Ford's Theatre on the night of his assassination, Studebaker carriages used by Presidents Grant and Harrison, and a 1909 Studebaker car used in the tunnel connecting the Senate office building with the U.S. Capitol.
